NYCHANIS Help System

Welcome to the New York City Neighborhood Information System's help. You can click on a topic on the left to jump to a particular area, or you can browse the index, or search for a word.

How to use the Help System

A Help Topic is a "page" in the NYCHANIS Help System. It is symbolized by a Question mark in the Navigation (left) pane of the Help System. To open the Help Topics book in the Navigation pane, click on the Help Topics book or the text, "Help Topics".  Below the Help Topics book is the topic, Introduction to NYCHANIS, as well as other books.

You can use the Next Topic and Previous Topic buttons located on the top, left of the help screen to view the next or previous Help Topic in the NYCHANIS Help System. They will move you to the next sequential Help Topic, even if it appears in the next book.

To view the Index Page for the NYCHANIS Help System, which functions like a book's index, click on the Index button above the Navigation pane. The Navigation Pane changes to show the items indexed in the NYCHANIS Help System. Clicking on a word in this list will jump you to that topic in the help system. You may use the text box to find a word by typing the word and pressing Enter or Return on your keyboard. When you do, the list is narrowed down to only include entries that contain the word you typed in the text box.

To search for a word that may appear anywhere in the NYCHANIS Help System, you can click on the Search button above the Navigation pane or use the Topic Search text box in the top frame of the help system.

You can click on the Search button, or you can quickly start the search process by typing a word or phrase into the search box and clicking on the Go button. This will display a list of matches for your search in the Navigation pane. Click on the link for a Help Topic to jump to that topic.

The Contents Button enables you to search through the NYCHANIS Help Table of Contents. Click on this button to return the Navigation Pane as it was when help started.
